Ann Ladd, Ph.D., LCSW
Director and Founder of The Connecting Place

Ann Ladd, Ph.D., LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) has worked with hundreds of couples and singles in workshops and private practice across the United States. Her teaching style is dynamic, clear, practical, personal and full of good humor. The core of her expertise is working with couples in crisis.

“We are not
broken; we are
unfinished.”

- Rachel Naomi Remen

My Philosophy

Life is an ongoing process of discovery and growth, not a problem to be solved. All of us have times of struggle and stuckness, betrayal and crisis. These challenges contain opportunities for increasing self-awareness and deepening our sense of meaning for our lives. A teacher or guide is often helpful at such times.

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
- Marcel Proust

The process of psychotherapy is guided self-discovery. My role is to provide a safe environment, to assist you in gaining the skills and awareness necessary for this self-inquiry and to assist you in developing the new attitudes and behaviors that will support your desired goals. I don’t see our work together as “fixing something broken” but rather as placing compassionate attention on the issues that need revisiting and acceptance. At times, I will share information from my experience and training. Together we will work to promote your deep healing, to create satisfying relationships, and to develop strategies for achieving the goals you set for your life.
Learning to connect to yourself with acceptance, compassion and celebration is the basis for connecting to others. Healthy relationships today require both this solid sense of self and the development of effective communication skills. Developing these skills along with a sense of deep empathy and understanding for the important people in your life is the primary focus of the work I do with couples and family members.

"It takes a long time to grow up
and be who you are."

-M.C. Richards
This personal growth work and couples work can be done in a variety of ways from individual counseling to group work to psycho-educational workshops and self-care classes. My approach in all of these modes is holistic– involving body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The ultimate goal is to free you to live today in the passion and joy of expressing your unique talents and gifts and to equip you to face the ongoing challenges of life in an effective, positive manner.
I would welcome an opportunity to join you in a part of the ongoing journey of your life.

Chris Leeman B. A. HpT.

Chris Leeman, BS, HpT has formed and facilitated men’s groups and has an individual counseling practice. He incorporates clinical hypnosis for relaxation and self-awareness. Chris has a direct, caring approach that combines humor and challenge to facilitate personal change.

“There is a principal that exists, bar none; that will keep a person in everlasting ignorance. That principal is contempt prior to investigation”- Walt Whitman

My Philosophy

I am an eclectic psychotherapist who pulls from a multitude of orientations in order to help the client move towards therapeutic growth. Being a certified hypnotist, I use hypnosis as one of many tools in combination with other therapies such as cognitive behavioral, reality, and psychoanalytic therapies. I currently am finishing my Marriage and Family/ Child Therapy Credentials here in Colorado.

Before becoming a therapist I spent 17 years working as an industrial electrician while doing work in areas such as mentoring men, working with addicted populations and working with problem youth. This experience in life gives me a unique perspective into that world and I have been able to harness this in working with families, men, women and youth.

If we value independence, if we are disturbed by the growing conformity of knowledge, of values, of attitudes, which our present system induces, then we may wish to set up conditions of learning which make for uniqueness, for self-direction, and for self-initiated learning. – Carl Rogers

I love being in private practice as a therapist because that is where people are at their personal best. I am honored to be a part of my client’s journey whether it is physical, spiritual or mental or the combination thereof. I believe in helping people use their natural strengths to promote deep healing and in creating or extinguishing habits. My concern is not where people are at the moment, either in diagnosis or life, but how I can help people to ascertain their goals through therapy to become more successful. I am very fortunate to be in Dr. Ladd’s building and I often attend her trainings pulling from her expertise. We are like-minded in our philosophies in how we honor people.

Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties. –

Laura Munroe, LCSW
Laura Munroe, LCSW

Following my internship in which I worked primarily with sexual abuse survivors, I began my career in Social Work in 1991 in San Antonio, Texas. My experience includes work as a dropout prevention coordinator, program therapist for inpatient adolescent care, in home family counselor for at risk families, hospital discharge planner, social services provider for home health, and for the last four years, outpatient psychotherapist for individuals, couples and families.
I have experience with a variety of age groups and emotional challenges.

Philosophy and Methods of Treatment

Seeking healing and growth in the form of psychotherapy is a bold step. Sometimes the situations of life bring us to our knees and we need the hand of another to learn to stand again, healed, strong and renewed. My great joy is to be a healing presence for people who are seeking to find their way back to themselves and who are seeking to restore their relationships with others. With deep respect and compassion I walk alongside my clients as a skilled, supportive presence offering guidance, tools, and an authentic relationship.

In therapy, clients will learn to identify their strengths and learn to use those strengths to cope with their life situations. Many times the wounds we have received along our life’s journey lead to attitudes and beliefs that ultimately yield unhealthy patterns of relating to ourselves and others. Part of the healing process is to recognize and honor past choices, and to stake new claims for ourselves that allow us to grow and thrive individually and in relationship.

I assist clients in their efforts to find a deeper awareness of themselves, create goals for change and growth, and develop skills for positive self care and for communicating effectively with others. I believe that each of us is already in possession of all that we need to heal and often we are helped by the caring presence and guidance of God, loved ones and skilled professionals.

My message to my clients is one of hope. We are strengthened when we face our challenges, tend our wounds and discover new reservoirs of strength and healing which reside within. Pain and adversity are not evidence of weakness but opportunities to stretch and grow if we are willing to invest in ourselves. Choosing to enter into individual, couples and group therapy is one way to invest in yourself.

Coworkers
For many of us, more awake time is spent in relationship with people at work than with our families and friends. The quality of our life, therefore, as well as the productivity of our work depends on these relationships being respectful, effective and satisfying. In addition, studies show that both for hiring and advancement in today’s work culture, employers require good skill with managing relationships along with technical and professional skills. Focusing on work relationships, Dr. Ladd has consulted and trained in a wide variety of work settings including government agencies, law firms, banks, private companies with professional employees, small family-owned businesses, and non-profits for over 30 years. Working with management, she offers training and other interventions specifically designed for each work site.
